They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. Ads may appear on webpages based on your previous searches or on the content of that individual page. Third party ad networks may use cookies, JavaScript, and/or web beacons on our website: to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements; to collect, use, store, and/or disclose data directly from Users; to place or recognize cookies on User’s browsers; and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see.

For example, an advertiser may tell us the audience they want to reach (e.g., females between 35 and 55 years of age) and provide us with an advertisement tailored to that audience. Cookies

Real Estate Career Central does not have or use its own cookies. However, third parties may use cookies on our Website and/or in our email communications: to advertise products and services to Users; to store User’s information; and/or to provide some of the Content on our Website (such as our Forum).

A HTTP cookie (also called a web cookie, Internet cookie, browser cookie or simply a cookie), is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a User’s web browser while the User is browsing that website. Every time a User loads that website, the browser sends the cookie back to the server to notify that website of the User’s previous activity.

Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember User’s information or to record the User’s browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited by the User as far back as months or years ago). Cookies can also store passwords and form content a User has previously entered.

Other kinds of cookies perform essential functions on the Internet. Perhaps most importantly, authentication cookies are the most common method used by web servers to know whether a User is logged in or not, and which account they are logged in with. Without such a mechanism, the site would not know whether to send a page containing sensitive information, or require the User to authenticate themselves by logging in. The security of an authentication cookie generally depends on the security of the issuing website and the User’s web browser, and on whether the cookie data is encrypted.

Normally, a cookie’s domain name will match the domain name that is shown in the web browser’s address bar. This is called a first-party cookie. Third-party cookies, however, belong to domains different from the one shown in the address bar. These sorts of cookies typically appear when web pages feature content, such as banner advertisements, from external websites. This opens up the potential for tracking the User’s browsing history, and is often used by advertisers in an effort to serve relevant advertisements to each User.

As an example, suppose a User visits www.example.org. This web site contains an advertisement from ad.foxytracking.com, which, when downloaded, sets a cookie belonging to the advertisements’s domain (ad.foxytracking.com). Then, the user visits another website, www.foo.com, which also contains an advertisement from ad.foxytracking.com/, and which also sets a cookie belonging to that domain (ad.foxytracking.com). Eventually, both of these cookies will be sent to the advertiser when loading their advertisements or visiting their website. The advertiser can then use these cookies to build up a browsing history of the User across all the websites that have ads from this advertiser.

Our Forum and sections of our Website that require logging in, subscription or membership to access may contain third party software that may use cookies: to save your preferences and login information; to provide you with personalized functionality; to customize our Website and its Content and/or advertising; to measure promotional effectiveness; to help ensure that your account security is not compromised; to mitigate risk and prevent fraud; to promote trust and safety across our Website; to collect, store, and sometimes track information for web analysis; and/or to improve the Content we provide.

More specifically, third parties may use different types of cookies for different purposes. They may use “required cookies”, which are necessary for their software and services to function properly with our Website. They may use “performance cookies”, which allow us and/or them to analyze how Users use our Website and third party software and services so we can measure and improve the performance of our Website and its services. They may use “functional cookies”, which allow us and/or them to remember choices you may have made on our Website. They may also use “advertising cookies”, which are used to present ads that are relevant to your interests. They also may utilize cookies to track referrals from internal and external affiliates, as well as to track the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns.

Most modern web browsers contain privacy settings that can block third-party cookies. You are free to decline any cookies on our Website. However, doing so may interfere with your ability to access and use some of the Content on our Website.

For more information on a particular ad network and information on how to opt out of the use of cookies for interest-based advertising, please visit their website. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendor’s use of cookies for interest-based advertising you can visit aboutads.info.

We may also use a third party to send emails that you have agreed to receive. Cookies may be used in those email messages to help us and/or our third party advertisers to measure the effectiveness of our and/or their advertising and to enable us and/or them to provide more focused marketing communications to you. You are free to decline their cookies if your browser or browser add-on permits, unless these cookies are required to prevent fraud or ensure the security of our Website and its services. However, declining cookies may interfere with your ability to access all Content in our emails.

Google DoubleClick Cookie

Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on Real Estate Career Central. The DoubleClick cookie is used by Google in the ads served on the websites of its partners, such as websites displaying AdSense ads or participating in Google certified ad networks. When a User visit a partner’s website and either view or click on an ad, a cookie may be dropped on that end user’s browser.

Google uses cookies to serve ads based on a User’s prior visits to our website. Google’s use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on your visit to our sites and/or to other websites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DoubleClick cookie for interest-based advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at the following URL: http://www.google.com/settings/ads.

Web Beacons

Real Estate Career Central does not have or use its own web beacons. However, third parties may use web beacons on our Website and/or in our email communications: to monitor the activity of Users on our Website; to monitor which Users open their email communications; to monitor and assess the effectiveness of their advertising and/or their email marketing; and/or to monitor and assess the Users of any Content on our Website that they have provided or contributed to.

Web beacons, also called web bugs, pixel tags or clear GIFs, are sometimes used in combination with cookies. Originally, a web bug was a small (usually 1×1 pixel) transparent GIF or PNG image (or an image of the same color as the background) that was embedded in an HTML page, usually a page on the web or the content of an email. Modern web bugs also use the HTML IFrame, style, script, input link, embed, object, and other tags to track usage. Whenever a User opens a page with a graphic browser or email reader, such image and other information is downloaded. This download requires the browser to send a request to the server storing that image or information, allowing the organization running that server to keep track of the HTML page. Web beacons are commonly used for tracking who is reading an email or visiting a web page, as well as for web analytics. When the HTML code for the web beacon points to a website to retrieve the image, at the same time it can pass along information such as: the IP address of the computer that retrieved the image; the time the web beacon was viewed and for how long; the type of browser that retrieved the image; and previously set cookie values.

If a company owns a network of websites, and have a network that requires all images to be stored on one host computer while the pages themselves are stored elsewhere, they may use web beacons to make logging in easier across multiple websites. They could use web beacons in order to count and recognize Users traveling around the different servers on the network. Rather than gathering statistics and managing cookies on all their servers separately, they can use web beacons to keep them all together.

Web beacons are also frequently used in email marketing as a way of determining which Users open the email. Doing this allows email marketers to know who has seen the promotion or announcement that they have sent. Through the use of unique identifiers contained in the URL of the web beacons, the sender of an email containing a web beacon is able to record the exact time that a message was read, as well as the IP address of the computer used to read the mail or the proxy server that the User went through. In this way, the sender can gather detailed information about when and where each particular recipient reads email. Every subsequent time the email message is displayed can also send information back to the sender.

Many graphical email clients can be configured to avoid accessing remote images. Text-based mail readers and graphical email clients with purely text-based HTML capabilities do not interpret HTML or display images, so their Users are not subject to tracking by email web beacons. Plain-text email messages cannot contain web beacons because their contents are interpreted as display characters instead of embedded HTML code, so opening messages does not initiate communication. Tracking via web beacons can be prevented by using email clients that do not download images whose URLs are embedded in HTML emails, rendering all messages as plain text and preventing any web beacons from loading. Many modern email readers and web-based email services will not load images when opening an HTML email from an unknown sender or that is suspected to be spam mail. The User must explicitly choose to load images. Web beacons can also be filtered out at the server level so that they never reach the end User.

Images and other content does not have to be invisible: any element can be used for tracking. Typically advertisements, banners and buttons are fetched from their website, not from the main website. This allows a third party site to gather information about Users when they pull HTML content from the main website. Companies or organizations, buttons or images of which are included on many websites, can track part of the browsing habits of a significant percentage of web Users. This is primarily done by ad-serving companies and social media websites.

While web beacons are used in the same way in web pages or emails, they have different purposes. If the web beacon is embedded in an email, the image is requested when the User reads the email for the first time, and can also be requested every time that the user subsequently loads the email. Whenever a web page (with or without web beacons) is downloaded, the server holding the page knows and can store the IP address of the computer requesting the page. This information can therefore be retrieved from the server log files without the need of using web beacons. Web beacons are used when the monitoring party does not have easy access to the logs of the main web server. This may happen when a website owner does not control its web servers, or because monitoring is done by a third party. As with any files transferred using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol, web beacons are requested by sending the server their URL, and possibly the URL of the page containing them. Web beacons can be used in combination with HTTP cookies like any other object transferred using the HTTP protocol.

A web beacon can be detected by viewing the source code of a Web page and looking for any IMG tags that load from a different server than the rest of the website.

Turning off a browser’s cookies can prevent some web beacons from tracking a User’s specific activity. The website logs will still record a page request from the User’s IP address, but unique information associated with it cannot be recorded. The web beacon will still account for an anonymous visit, but the User’s unique information will not be recorded.

Some email web beacon tracking can be disabled by: turning off HTML display; displaying text only; or turning off image display while still using HTML.

You do not have to have an account with Disqus to post Disqus Comments, you can post Disqus Comments as a guest (which doesn’t require you creating an account with Disqus). To post Disqus Comments as a guest, simply enable the “I’d rather post as guest” checkbox after you have typed your text into the comment box and provided you name and email address.
